Day Five saw a slight comeback with 'The Yevon Year'-isms. I say 'slight' because of 'duct'.

I wanted to flex my knowledge of time signatures (which I obsessed over) and tried to write polymeters into these tracks. Only 'duct' and 'visceral' had polymeters, but I was pretty satisfied with them.

'duct' had a few problems with timing, especially on the keyboard. I was relieved that the polymeter of 5/4 against the 4/4 drum pattern worked out really well, and didn't sound like utter noise.

An earlier version of 'visceral' would have a polymeter of 5/8 arpeggios to a 7/4 drum pattern with 11/8 extra arpeggios woven in. It sounded horrible, so I dialled back the 11/8 arpeggios and worked with the 5/8 arpeggios to the 7/4 drums.

When it slows down, the drums still played at 7/4 while keyboards now played at 4/2 (or 4/4). I would never play this live with drums; it would complicate me to the utmost degree (which, I guess, isn't that hard to do). I finished the track off with singing, which I've done in the past, but never really this upfront. I knew that I could sing falsetto fairly well and that I wanted to include that in the track. So I liked how it turned out.

'all nines' is an attempt to do everything 'nine'. Major and minor 9th chords, 9/4 time signature, 9 chords played in total. I was pretty happy with it, but it wasn't nearly as great as the first two.

Day Five is an EP that I'm proud of, too.
