about

The girl isn't real.

The length of the songs had something to do with taking inspirations from Lift Yr. Skinny Fists by GY!BE, but I don't think the sounds themselves have much to do with the album for the most part.

In the track, Delusion, I dove deep into the cliché and wrote it purely from the sense of classical music theory. Then I dumped it and went straight to aggressive sounds.

Addiction starts out with this pummelling distorted guitar riff and drums, building and building until it screams to stop. When it cools down, it slowly builds back up again without any rhythm, propped up by falsetto singing distorted by an amplifier. It then settles down on a, dare I say, calming but lifting guitars, accompanied by a simple drum beat. The repetition drives the theme of addiction and routine (or at least, what I hope it achieves to show).

Honestly, in retrospect, I'm only proud of the last 8 minutes of Inner Psyche. The long 22 minutes before this sounded great to me at the time, 'but now it's shrunk down to almost nothing'. Nothing to say about this track.

Sweet Release is my favourite in this album. It acts as the closer to the colossal track that is Inner Psyche (but it only serves to resolve the last 8 minutes of it). This track starts out fading into guitar strumming and a drummer eagerly following the guitar. The first 8 minutes features the same sound throughout, ending in the 7-minute long ambient interlude that finishes off the album.

Probably not in the league of Volcanic Ashes and Tidal Waves, but I still like to see this album as a step in the right direction (i.e. away from The Yevon Year).
